Applicants 2011/2012
There are currently 142 applicants for first year places in September 2012. There will be an open night on January 25th for all applicants and their parents. -

- Xmas 2011 Newsletter
- School Inspector - On Tuesday, 8th November, the school was subject to an incidental inspection. An inspector from the DES visited the school and observed in five lessons. Having observed these lesson, he was bery complimentary on the standard of teaching and learning in the classroom. He was particularily impressed with the students knowledge and learning in all lessons.
- The Breakfast Club is up and running every morning from 8.30 to 8.50 in the GPA. Toast is 50 cent, as is tea, but you can get two slices of toast and a cup of tea for €1
- Official Opening - The ceremony to officially open the school took place on Friday October 14th. It was a great day for the school community and for all who worked very hard to achive this for many years (read more).
- Science Club now takes place on a weekly basis. Interested students should see Ms. Morris
- Maths Week - All students were involved in Maths Week, which took place before the mid-term. Maths classes participated in various activities and competitions throughout the week
- The recent Coffee Mornings held for Junior Cycle parents were deemed to be a great sucess. Thanks to all who attended and contributed
- Zambia Immersion Project- The ZIP team are delighted to look forward to their final fundraising gig - The Talent Show, organised by Mr. Byrne on Thursday, 22nd December from 11.15 to 1.115. Tickets are €2.
- The team have sucessfully raised in excess of €25000. Well done to all who fundraised and those who gave some money or time to the project.
- Meanwhile, the teachers and students are in week 4 of a 6 week innoculation programme. We have only three school weeks when we return in Janurary, before departure on Feburary 3rd. An exciting time for all involved!!
- A huge 'thank you' to all involved in the sports fundraising draw. Students worked very hard at selling their tickets and raised a total of €10,200. The results are as follows :

Sellers Prize - Soccer Trip - John Kavanagh 1st Year
- As part of the CSPE action project on Law, 3rd Year students visited the Midlands Prison and the local Court House. Both visits were extermely beneficial and eye-opening
- Students studying the LCVP programme recently went on an interesting field trip to Laois Sawmills
- Transition Year - Over the past few weeks, TY have been on a few trips. Recently they have had a Law Day, where a serving barrister came in to talk, the Drive for Life programme, been to the Zoo, had a First Aid Course and have just got back from an Ice Skating trip in Dundrum. They are all now preparing to go on work experience for Christmas week
- They also have sucess to report in debating. They sucessfully competed in the Laois Schools Debating competition and are through to the second round
- Poetry Aloud - A group of students from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th year participated in the first round of this years Poetry Aloud competition in Portlaoise Collage on Tuesday. Competition was fierce with only 8 students being selected from 80 to go forward to the next round. However, Benn Hogan from 5th Year was victorious and will compete in the regional finals in the coming weeks.
- Green Schools - This year we are trying to recycle as much as possible. To do this, the Green Schools committee have set up a webpage on this site (read more)
- Sports - Basketball. In the cup, the U/16 team travelled to Carraroe, Co. Galway but were defeated as were the U/19 team when they travelled to Belfast. Both teams remain undefeated in the league
- Football - The U/16 team have recorded a tally of two wins, one draw and one loss from their challenge meatches to date
- Soccer - The 1st Year team won the Laois Interschool Qualifier and will travel to Ashbourne on November 22nd to represent Laois
- Having beaten the Cross, Passion College and St. Fergal's College, the U/15 soccer team are through to the Midland semi-finals
- In Hurling, the U/16 team were beaten in the Leinster semi-final by Johnstown, Kilkenny
- Senior Hurlers vs Roscrea in the first round of the championship on Monday 14th November
- The Senior Hurlers also hosted a team of Senior hurlers from St. Mary's Belfast and look forward to the return trip in February
