Contingency Arrangements in the event of unforeseen school closures

If the school has to close due to unforeseen circumstances and it is not otherwise possible to make up lost time, contingency arrangements to make up for lost time due to extensive or prolonged unforeseen school closures may now also include either or both of the following:

  • The Easter break may be reduced by up to three days by the school remaining open up to and including the Wednesday immediately preceding the Easter weekend. All schools must be closed on the Thursday and Friday immediately preceding the Easter weekend and remain closed for the remainder of the Easter break.
  • The February mid-term break may be reduced by up to three days subject to the requirement that all school must be closed on the Thursday and Friday of the week in which this break falls.

Appointments

If Parents/Guardians wish to meet with any member of the St. Mary’s CBS Staff, an appointment must be made in advance.

Office Hours

The school office hours are 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm Monday to Thursday.  The office hours for Friday are 9am to 1.15pm.  Please restrict phone calls to these times.  The office is closed during school holidays.  During the Summer the office is closed from the last week in June until the second week in August

Break/Lunch Times

Morning Break            11am to 11.15am.

Lunch                          1.15pm to 2pm.

Students must stay on the school premises during the lunch break

School will finish at 1.15pm on a Friday.

Reporting Illness

Parents/Guardians should contact the school by phone if a student is absent from school.  This is to keep school records up to date as required by the Education Welfare Act.  Parents/Guardians should also write a note in their sons journal upon his return to school to explain the absence to teachers.

If a student becomes ill during the school day, he should ask permission to go to the office.  A member of staff will then contact home.  Students can not go home without a Parents/Guardians permission and should not leave the school premises without signing out.  We would encourage dental/hospital  appointments to be made outside school time if possible.  However, if a student must leave school for such an appointment, Parents/Guardians should provide a note in the students journal in advance of the appointment.
