Geography
Geography, a core subject in the Junior Cert is at the heart of everyday life. At a time when environmental issues, pollution, migration, global warming and E U membership to name but a few are vital to Ireland’s future. Geography equips our students with a greater insight and understanding into these current topics.
As an option in Leaving Certificate, Geography can lead to careers in Town and County Planning, Meteorology, Soil Conservation, Land Surveying, Geology, Tourism, Teaching, G.I.S. (Geography Information Systems), Recycling, Resource Management and other careers involving human interaction with the environment.
Throughout the years, Geography has always been a very popular choice in Leaving Cert and students of all abilities have found it an enjoyable and rewarding option. Assessment includes field work study, which is submitted in April before the Leaving Cert. This counts for 20% of the final result and gives the student a valuable head start in the Leaving Certificate Exams in June.
