Our U.16 hurlers came up short in their recent match before the mid-term break. On the 21st they made their way to Timahoe to face close rivals Heywood. The teams have met on previous occasions and and have had many battles. This game was no different.
Heywood started strongly, scoring early points in the game. C.b.s missed early opportunities but got there name through free’s from Sean Culleton and Ciaran McEvoy. It was a poor first half performance from the team and went in at half time 0-7 to 0-2 down.
In the second half Portlaoise came out all guns blazing. Early scores from Evin Keane and Cian Taylor got the ship sailing for the C.b.s. Portlaoise were on top in the second half and there dominance was shown when Gary Bergin scored a well worked goal. Portlaoise kept the pressure piled on through the half and brought the scores to within 1 point with 10 minutes to go, 1-7 to 0-11. It was score for score in the last ten minutes. Heywood scored two points, Portlaoise’s Robbie McGuinness and Cian Taylor finished off the scoring for Portlaoise but it was too little too late. Losing 1-9 to 0-13.
The school was represented well on the day by a good following of supporters. The team would like to thank Mr.Walsh and Mr.Fitzpatrick for their commitment over the year. There are high hopes for this team in future times and will hopefully profit in times to come.
