Athletics
The CBS All-Irelands took place on the 24th of November. Congratulations to our individual medallists David Mulhare who came 2nd, and Sean Culleton who finished 3rd. Congratulations also to the men’s senior team of David Mulhare, Sean Culleton, Donnacha O’Reilly and Michael Dalton, who finished 3rd overall. Well done to those who ran in the junior races also, a great performance from all representing the school.
Breakfast Club
The breakfast club is operating very successfully for Ms McKenna and to T.Y students. Good value and welcoming smells of toast in the school every morning!
Soccer—U15 & U19
Congratulations to the U15 and U19 soccer teams who recently made it through to the semi-finals of their respective competitions
Christmas Cakes
The 1st year Home Economics classes had a busy few weeks making and decorating their Christmas cakes. After completing their modernised version of a traditional fruitcake, they mastered the art of sugar craft icing adding an array of 3d shapes including Christmas trees.
Poetry Aloud
Benn Hogan, accompanied by Ms Carroll competed in the All Ireland Semi Final of Poetry Aloud on 25th of November in The National Library of Ireland. His performance was impeccable and his exclusion from the All Ireland Final is a grave injustice.
Science and Maths Olympia
Congratulations to Alayobi Elbasheer and Benn Hogan who have been invited to participate in the Science & Maths Olympia (Alayobi in both, Benn in Maths) as a result of their Junior Certificate results in these subjects. These Olympia take place in UCD and DCU.
Credit System Reward
As part of the school’s on-going system, every student from the Junior Cycle travelled to Storm Cinema on Wednesday, the 21st of December, to see Sherlock Holmes. A well-deserved treat for the students involved
Transition Year News
Since returning from mid-term break Transition years have been very busy. They spent a day with Lesley McNeely on a “Drive for Life” road safety programme which includes preparation for the theory test.
There were two barristers in school on November 21st instructing the lads on the finer points Irish law. A number of mock trials were organised in preparation for the inter schools competition in March.
On November 29th Ms O’Connell and Ms Lynch escorted the T.Ys to Dublin Zoo where they took part in an “Environmental Awareness Programme”. The lads really enjoyed trip. On Wednesday 30th the boys performed for The Irish Board Of Speech and Drama examiner and the results were excellent ! Well done Ms Karen Hackett and the two T.Y classes.
On 6th December, four paramedics arrived at 9 am for a full days training with the T.Ys which resulted in 46 successful graduates in Basic First Aid ! Ms Kelly and Ms Brennan, tutors to T.Y A and B took the boys ice skating in Dublin.
